Lonardo investigates the abandonment and relocation of medieval settlements (San Lupo, Casalduni, Cerreto) in the Benevento area due to seismic risk. Among anti-seismic measures identified is the ‘alla beneventana’ walling-technique which involved mingling wood with the masonry construction. Restoration work in 2015 at Cerreto Sannita enabled a stratigraphic study of the Norman-era donjon and excavation of the lower portion of the structure. It was established that the Tower (Magna turris) dates to the second half of twelfth century.
