A research programme has focused on the monumental centre of this site since 2008. The authors believe that Erebuni could have suffered three major seismic events: the first at the beginning of the seventh or very end of the eighth centuries BC, the second towards the end of the first third of the seventh century BC, and evidence of a third is visible in the foundations of the great hall of columns. There are clear signs of repairs quite soon after the event. There are no intermediary stratigraphic sequences which would indicate a period of abandonment.
