The authors report that excavations at Palazzo Aluffi in Rieti suggest that the collapse of a domus can be dated to the mid-first century AD or the Flavian period. On the other hand, evidence from the so-called Terme di Cotilia at Cittaducale points to seismic damage in mid-fifth century AD and again in the thirteenth century. The conclusion reached here is that the Rieti earthquake occurred in the Neronian or early Flavian period, and the Cittaducale events are to be dated to the second half of the fifth century and again in 1298.
