La physique et la philosophie : le tournant conceptuel du IVe siècle

Ce texte discute certains aspects généraux de la transition – appelée ici «tournant conceptuel du IVe siècle» – entre 1/ l’idée qu’il existe une tradition de philosophie présocratique dans laquelle la causalité matérielle a joué un rôle dominant et presque exclusif, et 2/ l’idée d’une conception aristotélicienne de l’explication scientifique dans laquelle les considérations formelles et finales prédominent sur les considérations matérielles. This paper deals with some general aspects of the change (so called IVth century conceptual turning-point) between 1/ a philosophical presocratic tradition in which material causality had a dominant and almost exclusive part, and 2/ an aristotelian conception of scientific explanation in which formal and final considerations prevail over material ones.
